Book of Dragons

Created by Robert Burke

Book of Dragons is not just a card game, but a game system. It includes a deck of large, tarot-sized cards, beautifully illustrated by world-renowned artist Kerem Beyit. Think of it as a modern deck of playing cards, but instead of playing poker, blackjack, and other traditional card games, a host of designer games utilizing a plethora of modern design mechanics can be played.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Updated "Deluxe" Book Look - Add-Ons Available
over 6 years ago – Mon, Dec 18, 2017 at 08:54:25 AM

Hello again Book of Dragons backers!

I hope we're not bugging you too much, but we wanted to get you the most updated information... especially for those of you deciding whether to jump on board with the deluxe version.

Updated Deluxe Edition

Let's get to it.... Below is the latest version we have internally for that Deluxe edition.

We heard you on the "more antique" look. Obviously none of this is final and we're still very much open to (and looking for) your suggestions. We're still getting quotes on things like a magnetic lid, but you've made it clear that's fairly important as well as having space to hold sleeved cards.

Add-Ons Available

There have also been a few comments asking about adding on games, especially as it pertains to the deluxe edition. The campaign page now has a section explaining how add-ons work.

Because of the significant number of pledge levels already out there and the late addition of deluxe, the easiest thing we could do to resolve things is make those available only for the Deluxe pledge level.

The campaign has more detail, but the gist of how you do things is you modify your pledge to add additional money to cover the costs associated with what you'd like: A tuck box ($8), retail version ($16) or deluxe ($30). There is no increased shipping cost in the US for add-on games and different amounts for other countries. You'll be specifying what you want that pledge money to go towards separately after the campaign.

If you have any questions about how it works, feel free to ask in the comments below and we'll do our best to answer them. We're working on a chart to better explain things as well.

Thanks for your support and for making this project a reality!

Introducing the Deluxe "Book" Edition! - Stretch Goal
over 6 years ago – Fri, Dec 15, 2017 at 08:10:30 AM

Hey there Book of Dragons backers!

We surveyed you last week to see if you were interested in the option of a deluxe edition of Book of Dragons.

Here's what we found:

The vast majority who took the time to take the survey are on board, so we're on board!

Book of Dragons Deluxe

We've created a new pledge level for Book of Dragons. After crunching the numbers and getting quotes, we realized the $30 pricing initially discussed wasn't going to be feasible. So now we offer this as a $35 pledge....

A very nice book indeed
A very nice book indeed

Book of Dragons deluxe edition will be like, well, a book. It will open like a book, but inside it can hold two full decks of Book of Dragons along with the necessary rules. And of course, two decks of cards will be included. The cards themselves will be upgraded from the current 300 gsm blackcore linen and coated to 310 gsm French linen blackcore and coated.

The look of the box itself is still being finalized graphically and we're not 100% sure on how the hinged opening will be handled (a magnetic lid seems popular from early comments).

This will be available exclusively to Kickstarter backers or direct through Grey Fox Games. It will not be made available at retail. As a result, we'd like you to help shape the finished version of this. Do you like the current look here? What don't you like? Please feel free to give us your suggestion and ask any questions you may have.

Stretch Goal

As I'm sure you may have seen, we recently unlocked our first stretch goal! That means Dan King will be doing another rules video for one of the Book of Dragons games.

Thanks for your support of this project. We're excited to help make this a reality!

We're Funded! Stretch Goals & a Possible Deluxe Edition
over 6 years ago – Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 02:23:49 PM

Hey there everybody!

Alex from Grey Fox Games here. With your help, we've hit a major milestone in this project. It's now officially FUNDED and the Book of Dragons will be a reality in 2018! With that goal in the rear-view mirror, we can start looking ahead to stretch goals.

Stretch Goals

Now live on the page we have a string of stretch goals.

The first five involve making more of the games in the system easier to learn. You've already seen a number of videos that have been created for previous games by Dan King, the Game Boy Geek.

For every $2,000 the project raises up to $28,000, we'll commission another video from Dan teaching another game in the system.

Once we get to $30,000, that stretch goal will be a card quality upgrade. Currently the plan is to make these 300 gsm, blackcore, linen-finished and coated . For this stretch goal, we would make that 310 gsm, bluecore, linen-finished and coated. That will increase the thickness of the cards that come with every set.

Deluxe Edition?

We're considering making a new edition of Book of Dragons available as a $30 pledge level.

The concept would be that this would be a Kickstarter exclusive (available only here, through our website or at conventions) that would not be in retail. We'd like to make it like an actual "book", with a magnetic hinge that would hold the cards as well as the rules.

The cards would be upgraded in this to 310 gsm, French linen blackcore and coated.

That pledge would also include a tuck box version of the deck along with it.

To gauge if there's actually demand/interest in this option, we'd love your input! Go here to answer a two-question survey. With only a limited amount of time in the campaign, we'll gauge answers quickly and make a call this weekend on whether to go forward with the idea and create that new pledge level.

Thanks for supporting this wonderful project! We're excited to partner with Robert Burke Games to make this a reality.

Dragon Inquisition by Nate Bivins
over 6 years ago – Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 02:23:45 PM

Dragon Inquisition is a hidden traitor game by Nate Bivins (Sundae Spilt, Battle For Souls Second Edition). It's a social deduction game that delivers on everything we love about a the hidden traitor mechanic, without player elimination, and in less than 10 minutes! This game has been getting really high marks from our play testers, so we are very exited about it!  This is just one of what is now well over 20 games that can be played with Book of Dragons!

Here's the Rules School video on how it plays from the Game Boy Geek, Dan King.

Announcing a Partnership with Grey Fox Games PLUS a Subitus Wyrm video!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 02:23:35 PM

Dear Backers,

We are happy to announce that we will be partnering with Grey Fox Games (Champions of Midgard, Deception: Murder In Hong Kong) on Book of Dragons!

We feel this partnership will be the best thing for the future of the system, as Grey Fox has a much larger reach, and more development resources at their disposal.

Here's what Shane Myerscough, President of Grey Fox Games had to say, "You combine gorgeous art with plenty of diverse designs already in existence from established designers that board gamers know and love, and this is a no brainer. We're excited to help share this system with the gaming community."

We are thrilled about all the attention the system has been getting, and we want to give it the best chance for success post-Kickstarter. Grey Fox will help us achieve that goal.

This does not mean anything for you, our Kickstarter backers. Pricing will remain the same, as will fulfillment, and production quality. Grey Fox has been added as a collaborator to the project if you have any questions.

Also, below is a rules video for Subitus Wyrm, it's like Cockroach Poker on steroids!
