Book of Dragons

Created by Robert Burke

Book of Dragons is not just a card game, but a game system. It includes a deck of large, tarot-sized cards, beautifully illustrated by world-renowned artist Kerem Beyit. Think of it as a modern deck of playing cards, but instead of playing poker, blackjack, and other traditional card games, a host of designer games utilizing a plethora of modern design mechanics can be played.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Survey Lockdown Date
over 5 years ago – Thu, Sep 06, 2018 at 11:07:43 PM

Hey Book of Dragons backers!

Alex from Grey Fox here.

As we're within a couple of weeks of the factory's estimated completion date of 9/20, we're officially setting a survey lockdown date of September 13th at 11 AM EST.

The vast vast majority of you filled those out long ago. Of the 42 who haven't as of the time of the post, almost all of those were backers who pledged just a dollar or two to support the campaign.

Shortly after we lock surveys, we'll be charging cards for add-ons, so if you have any reason to think your payment info is out of date, now would be a great time to update it.

If you need help with anything, please don't hesitate to reach out and let us know at [email protected] .

Thanks,

Alex

The Deluxe Box - Updated Timeline
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 22, 2018 at 12:44:26 AM

Hey there Book of Dragons backers,

We've received a couple of updates from the factory in China on Book of Dragons we wanted to share with you. One of them is visual... the other one is on the logistics end of things.

The Deluxe Box

Here's a few pictures of the deluxe edition box for Book of Dragons. You can see the "pages" and the gold lettering shining through. These photos themselves come from the factory as we have yet to hold a copy ourselves just yet.

Updated Timeline

The factory has also recently informed us of their estimated completion date for Book of Dragons. They are telling us they anticipate production wrapping up Sept. 20th, around a month from now. This is a little longer than we'd anticipated. It puts the likely fulfillment date sometime in November.

We appreciate everyone's patience with this and we'll be sure to keep you updated.

As we get closer to that date, we're also getting closer to locking down surveys. If you have not filled yours out, please do so right away as you will at the very least delay your copy of the game and, worst case, increase your shipping costs to receive the game.

That's all for now. Thanks again!

Book of Dragons Print & Play Now Released
almost 6 years ago – Wed, Aug 01, 2018 at 01:52:03 AM

Hey Book of Dragons backers,

It's a little later than we had hoped (a new Kickstarter and Gen Con got in the way of that) but the Book of Dragons print & play has now been sent out to all backers.

The file was sent out via BackerKit, so you should see a notification email from them soon if you haven't already. If you have not, please send an email to [email protected] and we'll look into it.

Thanks again for your patience on this. As we have more updates on the production of the game and a lockdown date, we'll pass the word along.

Better News Update - Book of Dragons Sent to the Printer
almost 6 years ago – Wed, Jul 18, 2018 at 12:38:44 AM

Hey Book of Dragons backers!

As part of keeping you better in the loop on the status of this project, we've got some good news!

After getting some rules clarifications and some additional copy editing, we're pleased to announce that Book of Dragons has been sent to the printer. This is a key step in the process and puts us in a better position to make estimates on a couple of fronts.

Print & Play

The files we've sent to the printer are different than the ideal files for those interested to print and play Book of Dragons at home. Our in-house creative director needs a little bit more time to work on that. Our best estimate is that we'll be able to email those files out early next week, though late this week is also possible.

Physical Copies

This will obviously take a decent chunk of time. Estimates are fuzzy, but here's our best guesses:

45 days for the game to be manufactured (early September)

30 days to be shipped to our warehouse and international fulfillment centers (early October)

Anywhere from 7 to 30 days for backers to receive copies depending on the part of the world they're in. (mid-October to November)

Obviously, there are any number of unforeseen delays that can slow this all down, but that's our best guess at this moment.

We're going to be locking down surveys once production is completed, so if you haven't gone into BackerKit to let us know where to ship your game to, please do so right away. And as always, if you have any questions, please shoot us a message at [email protected] referencing Book of Dragons in the subject line.

Thanks again for your patience and your support!

An Apology & An Update
almost 6 years ago – Sat, Jul 14, 2018 at 12:19:08 AM

Hey there Book of Dragons backers,

Alex from Grey Fox Games here. Hope everyone has been staying cool this summer

Apology

Let's start this update off with a big apology. It is unacceptable that it's been since late May that we've provided an update to you. There are plenty of excuses for this.... a big crop of other projects, convention season entering full swing...  but the bottom line is that you deserve better communication from us for a project you supported. I know I expect that when I back a Kickstarter project and we have most certainly fallen short on that front.

The lack of communication isn't Robert Burke's fault or anyone else's within Grey Fox Games' but mine. It's a little hard to make up for now, but we will do better in the future with keeping you in the loop.

Current Status

The big struggle with getting Book of Dragons finalized and ready to go has been the rule sets. In total, there are 136 pages of rules that will come included in copies of Book of Dragons in three separate rulebooks.

In preparing the files to go to the printer, we reviewed the rules and encountered problems that were a little larger than simple typos. Our lead game developer Josh's review uncovered situations in many of the games where rules were unclear and the game would have been difficult, if not impossible, to play purely from the rules. We are currently working with the original developers of the project to sort this issue out.

With our other projects Bushido and City of Gears at the printer, this is currently our top priority. Now that everyone is focused on this, we anticipate the game going to print early next week. We'll send out an additional update when that's the case.

Production Look

While we're still working on finalizing the rules, we do have the other associated files ready to go. Below are a couple of looks at finalized components:

The deluxe box's outside appearance

We're excited about how the look of the game is coming together and hope you are as well.

Estimated Timeline

As soon as the rulesets are finalized, we'll be able to send out print and play files to everyone. That should be sometime next week.

Once this has officially gone to the printer, we'll have a better sense of how delayed delivery will be. It will likely be before the end of the year, but putting a timeline on which month right now is a little tricky.

Questions? Concerns?

Finally, if you ever have any questions or concerns about this project, the best way to reach out is by sending us a message here on Kickstarter or by email to [email protected]

That's all for now... Again, apologies for failing to keep everyone in the loop. We will be stepping up our communication game for sure... after I've been fed to a horde of hungry dragons.

Thanks,

Alex - Grey Fox Games
