Book of Dragons

Created by Robert Burke

Book of Dragons is not just a card game, but a game system. It includes a deck of large, tarot-sized cards, beautifully illustrated by world-renowned artist Kerem Beyit. Think of it as a modern deck of playing cards, but instead of playing poker, blackjack, and other traditional card games, a host of designer games utilizing a plethora of modern design mechanics can be played.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Box Coming Together - Rulebook Progress
almost 6 years ago – Tue, May 29, 2018 at 01:06:34 AM

Hey there Book of Dragons backers,

I hope the month of May has been going well for you... even thought most of it has been without an update from us.

A big chunk of our team (including myself) is on the way to UK Games Expo, but we have a couple of significant updates on this project for you.

Deluxe Box

Our lead graphic designer, Tyler, has been hard at work illustrating the cover of the Book of Dragons Deluxe Edition. Here's a look at what it's going to look like. It's not final yet, but gives you an idea of what the finished product should look like.

Rulebook Progress

Completing the rulebooks for this project has taken up more time than expected. The biggest challenge has been ensuring the rulebooks are of a size where they're still readable but not so big that they can't fit in the boxes.

Even with the delays, we're anticipating being able to get all of this to the printer by the end of this week or early next.

When we can get this project to the printer, we'll have a better sense of an ETA for delivery. At this point, it appears we're likely to miss the projected August date. We're sorry about that, but we want to make sure that when you have Book of Dragons in your hands, it meets or exceeds your expectations.

Thanks,

Alex

Book of Dragons - Backer-Submitted Games Winners
about 6 years ago – Wed, Apr 18, 2018 at 12:10:08 AM

Hey Book of Dragons backers!

We hope spring has sprung wherever you are. It's been hit or miss here in St. Louis.

We've got a few significant updates for you in regards to the project and we'll start with the biggest one.

Backer-Submitted Games Picked

Book of Dragons is all about not only providing a set of games from established designers, but also providing a set of tools for gamers to create their own games. As a result we wanted to include games that backers created for Book of Dragons in the published product.

We received many great submissions and we're excited to announce our two winners.

Reflections - J. Ryan Opp

Towering Flight - Kiva Fecteau

A big congratulations to both and to everyone who submitted a game! These games and more than 18 others will be published in the final game.

Project Update

Just so everyone is a little more in the loop, there's one big thing that we're working on in regards to the game.... the rulebook layout. Here's what a page from one of the more finished ones looks like:

And here's what another one looks like:

As you might imagine, we need the ones that are in standard Word format to look more like the first one. Our graphic designer Tyler is currently handling those one by one.

Beyond that, we also need to conduct a few rounds of proofreading of all of these rulebooks so there aren't any embbarrasssing speelllinng errrorss. We'll be looking for backer help on that for whoever's interested.

Timing

As far as timing, we anticipate the physical delivery of the game is still on track.

As some backers have mentioned, we are most certainly not on time for the print and play version date shown on the page. That timeline was set before Grey Fox Games jumped on board as a publisher. When we have the game ready to go to print, we'll be able to release the print and play itself so that it can include all of the edited and laid out rulesets.

If you have any other questions, please post them here or send them to us at [email protected].

Thanks for your support and all the best!

The Book of Dragons Games You Designed!
about 6 years ago – Wed, Feb 07, 2018 at 10:00:38 PM

Hey Book of Dragons backers,

I'm passing along a quick message from Ken Shannon on the development team:

"The following games were submitted and received. If you submitted a game and it is not on this list, contact us as soon as possible. As a reminder no late submissions are able to be accepted, so proof of submission and submission time are required.

Dragon Brawl

Dragon Eggs

Dragon Formation

Dragon Line

Island Guardians

Looting Dragons

Madness in Gillara

Reflections

Towering Flight

All games will be tested double blind by multiple groups and scored. Development will review scores and those scoring above a 7 out of 10, will be developed (if needed).

Selection will be exclusively determined in-house based on each game’s score, its innovation and originality as compared to other games already in the Book of Dragons and a host of other factors We look forward to sending out the results soon!"

Thanks,

Alex

Last Day to Submit Games for Book of Dragons
over 6 years ago – Thu, Feb 01, 2018 at 12:28:41 AM

Hey there Book of Dragons backers,

First off, thank you so much for your diligence on getting those surveys filled out. As of today, we have surveys from all but 66 backers. We'll send a reminder out to those 66 fairly soon, but we appreciate the vast majority of you getting that done! It makes fulfillment a lot easier.

The main reason for today's update is I wanted to pass along a message from the development team.

Today is the last day to submit your game ideas for Book of Dragons and still have the opportunity to have the game published. Please submit your ideas to either BGG or post a link in the comments section. Even a submission sent in by 11:59 PST qualifies the game for review. There are only a few spots available and competition is tight, so unfortunately late entries can't be accepted.

Thanks to everyone who's submitted so far and good luck!

Surveys Have Gone Out!
over 6 years ago – Mon, Jan 08, 2018 at 10:38:42 PM

Hey Book of Dragons backers,

Check the email inboxes tied to your Kickstarter account because you should now have your survey from BackerKit.

As of this update, we've seen 280 responses so far. Thank you to everyone who jumped on this one right away! It helps ensure we know where to send your games when we have everything ready to send out. We can't stress this enough so we'll repeat it again... If you don't fill those out, we will have no idea where to send your game to when it's ready and if you're an international backer your shipping costs may increase if you miss the deadline. You'll have a few months to update your shipping addresses and finalize exactly what you want to have.

A key exception to all this is anyone who backed at a $1 pledge level as they aren't receiving these surveys. There will be a pre-order "store" online for any of those backers interested in getting a copy.

If you have any problems with BackerKit or don't see your survey, please email us at [email protected] for help. Again, we don't see any direct messages sent to this page.

Thanks again for your support!

Alex
